I have had several
sponsees over the years who balked at the fifth step and quickly
were out drinking again. One that I know of died. The funny
thing is, I have heard a fair number of fifth steps over the
years and a couple of hours after hearing one, I honestly
couldn't tell you much of what it was about. I have my own
past, I certainly don't want to be lugging around someone
else's. The entire exercise is about a person unloading the
burdens of their past, not me taking them on.
