Addiction Tests

Here are some documented tests to help you determine if you have an addiction problem.

Tests:

CAGE Test

The best known and most studied short screening test is the CAGE (need to cut down on drinking, annoyance, guilt about drinking, need for eye-opener) questionnaire.

o The following 4 questions make up the CAGE questionnaire:

1. Have you ever felt the need to cut down on your drinking?

2. Have people annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?

3. Have you ever felt bad or guilty about your drinking?

4. Have you ever had a drink first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or get rid of a hangover?

o Patients who answer affirmatively to 2 questions are 7 times more likely to be alcohol dependent as the general population. Those who answer negatively to all 4 questions are one-seventh as likely to have alcoholism as the general population.
